Steering System Pressure Setting
Loosen the filler cap on the tank to permit the pressure in the tank to go down before installation or removal of any test equipment.
To check the pressure setting for the steering system:1. Remove plug (1) and install a 0 to 4000 psi (0 to 27 500 kPa) pressure gauge.
STEERING CONTROL VALVE
1. Plug.2. Install anti-pivot link (2) so the machine can not turn. If the anti-pivot link can not be installed, the pressure setting can be checked by an adjustment of the striker (stop assembly) that is not correct. Adjust the striker until the front and rear frame stops can come in contact when a full turn is made.3. Start the engine and operate it at high idle.4. Turn the steering wheel until the relief valve opens. Note the indication on the gauge. The correct relief pressure is 2500 75 psi (17 000 520 kPa).5. If the pressure is not correct: a. Remove plug (4) from steering control valve.
ANTI-PIVOT LINK INSTALLED
2. Anti-pivot link.
STEERING CONTROL VALVE
3. Shims. 4. Plug.b. Add shims (3) to increase the pressure setting and remove shims if a decrease is necessary. 6. When the adjustment is correct, remove the anti-pivot link.Steering Slip Check
To check the steering wheel slip:1. Put the machine on a dry hard surface. Raise the bucket approximately one foot and release the brakes. The oil must be at the normal temperature for operation.2. With the engine at low idle, turn the steering wheel SLOWLY through one revolution so that there is a minimum of articulation. Do this in both directions to get the feeling of the steering action.3. Do this test three more times in each direction. Make a note of the time required for each of the revolutions of the steering wheel.4. Add the three times for each direction. If these totals are 60 seconds or more, the slip is acceptable.5. If the totals are less than 60 seconds, remove the spool from the main control valve. Turn the spool around in its bore (turn end for end). To do this the spring, retainer, and shims must be installed on the opposite end of the spool. On some machines this will correct the problem of manufacturing tolerances and the slip will then be acceptable.Neutralizer Valve
To check the adjustment of striker (stop assembly) (1):1. Put a 1.00 in. (25.4 mm) ball of putty (or similar material) on the front frame stops.2. Raise the bucket about one foot and release the brakes.3. With the engine at high idle, steer rapidly into both stops.
NEUTRALIZER VALVE
1. Striker (stop assembly). 2. Neutralizer valve.4. After the turns, the thickness of the putty must be .12 to .18 in. (3.0 to 4.6 mm) with a loaded bucket. With an empty bucket, the thickness of the putty must be .62 to .88 in. (15.7 to 22.4 mm). This is the clearance between the frame stops when a full turn is made.5. If the clearance is not correct, adjust the strikers until the dimension is
