Inject ether ONLY while cranking the engine. Use the ether sparingly. Excessive ether can cause piston and ring damage. Use when temperatures are below 0°C (+32°F) for cold weather starting purposes. Refer to "Engine Starting" for further information.
Gauges
Engine Coolant Temperature (1) - Indicates the temperature of the engine coolant. GREEN RANGE is normal operating temperature. RED RANGE is excessive coolant temperature. Engine Oil Pressure (2) - Indicates the engine oil pressure. GREEN RANGE is normal when the engine is at FULL LOAD speed. WHITE RANGE is normal when the engine is at LOW IDLE. RED RANGE is excessive oil pressure, stop the engine and correct problem. Ammeter (3) - Indicates the charging condition of the charging circuit. In normal operation, with the engine running, the needle will read ZERO. Torque Converter Oil Temperature (4) - Indicates the temperature of the torque converter oil. GREEN RANGE is the normal operating temperature. RED RANGE is excessive oil temperature. Service Hour Meter (5) - Indicates the total operating hours of the engine. It should be used to determine service intervals.Light Switches
Light Switch - Controls the lighting circuit. Push the top of the switch to turn the lights ON. Push the bottom of the switch to turn the lights OFF. Interior Dome Light (If Equipped) - Move the switch back to turn the light on.Windshield Wiper/Washer (If Equipped)
Front Windshield Wiper (1) - Controls the front windshield wiper. Pull the knob out to first notch for slow wiper speed. Pull out to second notch for fast wiper speed. Push the knob in for off. Front Windshield Wiper (2) - Controls the front windshield washer. Turn the windshield wiper on. Push the knob to activate the windshield washer. Spring force will return the knob when released. Rear Windshield Wiper (3) - Controls the rear windshield wiper. Pull the knob out to first notch for slow wiper speed. Pull out to second notch for fast wiper speed. Push the knob in for off. Rear Windshield Wiper (4) - Controls the rear windshield washer. Turn the windshield wiper on. Push the knob to activate the windshield washer. The washer fluid bottle is located on the right side of the cab near the operator's seat. Look at the bottle to check quantity.Remove the bottle cap to add fluid.Use Caterpillar washer fluid to prevent system from freezing.Horn
Horn - Push the knob down to sound the horn. Use the horn to alert or to signal personnel.Back-up Alarm
Back-up Alarm - The alarm will sound when the transmission control lever is in the reverse position. It is used to alert people behind the machine that it is backing up.The back-up alarm is located on the rear of the machine. A three position switch at the rear of the back-up alarm regulates its volume. (1) is High, (2) is Low and (3) is Medium.The alarm is set at the highest sound level when shipped from the factory.
