GEAR-RING 2P4431 - Caterpillar

Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot low coolant level. Also use this procedure if one of the following diagnostic trouble codes is active. Access the engine monitoring system on Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) in order to view the current trip points for these codes. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Monitoring Parameters" for information about engine events.

111-1 Engine Coolant Level : Low - most severe (3) The engine coolant level has fallen below the coolant level sensor for the specified delay time. The code is logged.
111-17 Engine Coolant Level : Low - least severe (1)
111-18 Engine Coolant Level : Low - moderate severity (2) Probable Causes
Low coolant level and/or coolant leakage

Low Coolant Level and/or Coolant Leakage
Inspect the coolant level. If necessary, add coolant.
Check for the correct mixture of antifreeze and water. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual.
Check the cooling system for leaks. Repair any leaks immediately.
Check for air in the cooling system. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting for the correct procedure. Coolant Level Sensor
If an electrical problem with the coolant level sensor is suspected, refer to Troubleshooting, "Coolant Level - Test" for details.
