Remove Camshaft Bearings
Start By:a. remove camshaftb. remove flywheel housingc. remove pistonsFluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Remove the rear camshaft bearing with Tooling (A).2. Remove the remainder of the camshaft bearings with Tooling (A). Start at the rear of the engine block and move toward the front.Install Camshaft Bearings
Install all the bearings so that the oil hole in the bearing is 90 15 degrees from a vertical line as shown.
Be sure each bearing is in alignment with the cylinder block bore before the bearing is installed. Install the bearing with the oil hole in alignment with the oil hole in the block bore.
