start by:a) remove hoodb) remove water pumpc) remove alternatord) remove belt tightener (earlier machines)e) remove fan drivef) remove front support 1. Remove bracket (1) that holds the alternator in position on the engine.2. Fasten a hoist to the front of the engine. Lift the front of the engine until the weight of it is off of tooling (A).3. Remove the bolts that hold the oil pan to the timing gear cover. 4. Loosen the other bolts that hold the oil pan to the engine. Put spacers (2) between the oil pan and oil pan plate as shown. Lower the engine on to tooling (A).
Do not cause damage to the oil pan and oil pan plate gaskets.
5. Remove trunnion (3) from the timing gear cover. 6. Remove covers (4) and (5) from the rear side of the timing gear cover.7. Remove the bolts and nuts that hold the timing cover to the front of the engine.8. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws at the bottom of the timing gear cover. 9. Turn the forcing screws in evenly until the timing gear cover is free of the dowels on the front of the engine. Remove timing gear cover (6). Weight of the cover is 50 lb. (22.7 kg).Install Timing Gear Cover
1. Put a new gasket in position on the timing gear plate. Put timing gear cover (1) in position on the timing gear plate and install the bolts and nuts that hold it. 2. Install trunnion (2) on the timing gear cover. Install the bolts that hold it. 3. Install covers (3) and (4) on the rear side of the timing gear cover.4. Fasten a hoist to the front of the engine. Lift the engine until the weight of it is off of tooling (A).5. Remove the spacers between the oil pan and oil pan plate. Tighten the bolts that hold the oil pan in position.6. Install the bolts that hold the oil to the timing gear cover. Lower the engine back on to tooling (A). 7.
