The 261-8007 Position Sensor Gp may experience mechanical and electrical failures on the machines listed above. The 261-8007 Position Sensor Gp is a part of 274-3834 Lift Cylinder and Sensor Gp .Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this problem, and is recommending to replace the failed 261-8007 Position Sensor Gp with same part number.Follow the below rework procedure in order to install the position sensor group

Disconnect sensor harness and remove housing (A) from the cylinder group.
Insert a long punch through the hole in the top of housing (A) and push out the sensor.Note: Perform Step 3 to Step 5 on level ground for safety reasons.

Install new 261-8007 Position Sensor Gp (1) in to the lift cylinder group.

Use a piece of mechanics wire (B) to pull the sensor wires (C) through the hole of the housing (A) .

If the cylinder is not removed from the machine, press the 261-8007 Position Sensor Gp (1) into the housing (A) prior to installation on the lift cylinder group. Use a C-Clamp (D) to squeeze the position sensor group (1) into the housing (A) .

Use ratchet (E) to tighten mounting bolts (F) .Note: Avoid at all cost the use of a hammer to drive the sensor group into the housing, as this action may damage the sensor and cause premature failure during operation.
