( 1 ) Use to remove 117-3284 gear.
( 2 ) Use to remove 263-7398 gear.Start By:
Remove the fuel injection lines. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Injection Lines - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Disconnect fuel hoses (1) and (2) . Put caps or plugs on all openings immediately in order to prevent contamination of the fuel system.

Remove five bolts (3) from the cover of the fuel injection pump. These bolts also secure the fuel injection pump to the housing (front).
Remove cover (4) . Check the O-ring seal on the cover (4) . Replace the O-ring seal, if necessary.

Remove bolt (5) and the washer from the cylinder block.

Disconnect engine oil line (6) . Put caps and plugs on all openings immediately in order to prevent contamination of the fuel system.

Note: Because the idler gear has an odd number of teeth, orientation of the fuel injection pump gear by the timing marks is not dependable. Before removal, mark the fuel injection pump gear and the idler gear for correct orientation.
Use a suitable lifting device in order to secure fuel injection pump housing and governor (7) .
Remove bolt (8) and the washer from the housing (front).
Remove fuel injection pump housing and the governor (7) .

Remove nut (9) and the washer for the fuel injection pump gear.
Remove O-ring seal (11) . Replace the O-ring seal, if necessary.
Use Tooling (A) to remove fuel injection pump gear (10) .
