Component Code(s) 1405SUBJECT: CLAAS C-10 AND C-12 ENGINE ALTERNATOR SUPPORT ASSEMBLY
PROBLEM:
Failed or broken alternator supports have been reported on the above industrial engines in Claas Combine Harvesters. No additional secondary damage has been reported to the alternator or to the alternator-mounting group despite the broken support. New supports are reported not fitting properly and the new replacement support is also failing after a short period of time. In some cases the failed support has gone unnoticed for an extended period of time without any further damage.
SOLUTION:
The 202-7955 Support assembly (1) for the above industrial engines with Prestolite and Delco alternators in Claas Combine Harvesters is no longer needed and can be removed. Completion of independent vibration tests has confirmed that the bracket does not perform any necessary function and can be seen to increase vibration at certain engine speeds. Some Claas dealers have also welded the failed support assembly at the failed resting position with no further problems seen.
