GEAR (40 TEETH) 3S6907 - Caterpillar

Install 16, 1/2 -13 bolts (B).
Tighten bolts (B) to a torque of 135 20 N m (100 15 lb ft).

Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to position support (28). Support (28) weighs approximately 110 kg (243 lb).
Install four bolts (27) and eight bolts (26).

Position tube/bracket assembly (25) and install three bolts (24).
Connect hose (23).

Do not remove bolts (20) or set screw (21) from gear/cam phaser assembly (22). The spring is under high tension. Possible injury could occur if bolts are removed.

Position gear/cam phaser assembly (22) on both sides. Gears should be flush.

Align the posts on back of the cam phaser hub (19) with the holes in the gear/cam phaser assembly (22) on both sides and connect.
Install the plate (18) and three bolts (17) on both sides.

Position covers (15) on both sides and install ten bolts (14).
Connect hose (16).
Install tube (12) and two bolts (13).

Install solenoid (11).
Tighten solenoid (4) to a torque of 50 5 N m (36.9 3.7 lb ft).

If the camshaft is out of time more than 18 degrees (approximately 1/2 of the timing pin is out of the groove), the valves can contact the pistons. Valve contact with the pistons will damage the engine. Refer to Test and Adjusting, "Camshaft Timing"for more information. It may be necessary to rotate past the bolt hole to relieve lash in the cam phaser gear, then rotate back to the hole.
Remove timing pin (7) from position (9) and groove (10).

Position timing pin (7) into storage position and install bolt (8).

Position cover (5), install harnesses (6), and (3) and install eight bolts (4).

Position bracket (2) and install two bolts (1).End By:
Install the rocker shaft and the pushrods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Pushrod - Install".
Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Install".
Install the starting motors. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Starting Motor - Install" or Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install".
Install the flywheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel - Remove and Install".
If the exhaust elbow is attached to the flywheel housing, install the exhaust elbow and remove the bracket for the exhaust elbow. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Elbow - Remove and Install".
Install the gas pressure regulator solenoid. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gas Pressure Regulator Solenoid - Remove and Install".
Install the crankshaft rear seal and the wear sleeve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal and Wear Sleeve - Install".
