GEAR GP-TRANSFER 3T0031 - Caterpillar

The following procedure is for the removal of the right side tailgate cylinder. Use the same procedure to remove the left side tailgate cylinder.

Secure the tailgate with pin assemblies (2).
Remove the bolts, the washers, and cover assembly (1).

Disconnect hose assemblies (3).

Remove bolts (4) and the washers. Remove pins (6) and use two people to remove tailgate cylinder (5). The weight of tailgate cylinder (5) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb). Installation Procedure
Install tailgate cylinder (5) in the reverse order of removal. Disassembly and Assembly Information

Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain pressurized for very long periods of time, even with the hoses removed.Failure to relieve pressure before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder can result in personal injury or death.Ensure all pressure is relieved before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder.
Illustration 4 g01164664 (1) Apply Tooling (E) to the seal groove prior to installing the wiper seal. (2) Use Tooling (H) in order to tighten the bolt to a torque of 850 25 N m (627 18 lb ft). (3) Lubricate the head with Tooling (F). Tighten the head to a torque of 600 130 N m (443 96 lb ft). (4) Lubricate the sealing lips lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed. (5) Apply Tooling (E) to the seal groove prior to installing the wiper seal.
