Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Place the gasket and the O-ring seals in position on the rear of the cylinder block.
Trim the gasket that is located between the rear housing and the cylinder block. Trim this gasket even with the bottom of the cylinder block.
Apply Tooling (B) to the engine oil pan and replace the section of the gasket for the engine oil pan. Apply Tooling (C) to the top of the section of the new gasket. Apply Tooling (C) to the intersection of the cylinder block, engine oil pan, and rear housing. Tooling (C) will assist with installation of the rear housing.

(9) 3/4 inch bolts
(10) 1/2 inch bolts
(11) 5/8 inch bolts
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to rear housing (8). The weight of rear housing (8) is approximately 455 kg (1000 lb).
Position rear housing (8) onto the cylinder block. Install bolts (9), (10), and (11). Use Step 5.a through Step 5.c to tighten bolts (9), (10), and (11).
Tighten bolts (9).
Tighten bolts (11) to a torque of 270 40 N m (200 30 lb ft).
Tighten bolts (10) to a torque of 135 20 N m (100 15 lb ft).
Install bolts (12) that hold the engine oil pan to rear housing (8).

Install tube assemblies (5) and (6). Connect harness assembly (7).

Install plate assembly (3), guard assembly (4), and guard assembly (2).
Install cover (1). End By:
Install fuel filter housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Filter Housing - Install".
Install the crankshaft rear gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Gear - Install".
Install the camshaft drive gears. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft Drive Gear - Install".
Install the manual barring group. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Manual Barring Group - Remove and Install".
Install the starting motors. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Starting Motor - Install" or Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install".
