Start By:a. connect steering frame lock link Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Product Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses and tubes to prevent the loss of fluids, and keep foreign material from entering the system. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage of disposal.1. Release the pressure from the hydraulic system as follows:
Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. In order to prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing, adjusting or working on any hydraulic components.
a. Move the machine to a smooth, hard and dry horizontal surface. Move away from working machines and personnel. Lower the blade or attachment to the ground. Stop the machine.b. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel either away from the machine or in view of the operator.c. Engage the parking brake. Put blocks in front of and behind the wheels.d. Push the brake pedal many times until there is no more brake oil pressure.e. When the blade or attachment is raised for test, adjustments or maintenance, make sure that the blade or attachment has proper support. The lift circuit has high oil pressure when the lift arms raise the front of the machine. Do not stop the engine with the front of the machine off of the ground, unless a system test requires it. Lower the front of the machine to the ground and stop the engine.f. Install the steering frame lock link so the machine can not turn.g. Move the hydraulic control levers to all positions in order to release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Place the tilt control in the FLOAT position. Place the lift control in the HOLD position.h. Carefully loosen the fill cap on the hydraulic tank in order to release the pressure in the tank.j. Make sure that all hydraulic pressure is released before any fitting, hose or component is loosened, tightened, removed or adjusted.k. Tighten the fill cap on the hydraulic tank.2. Drain the hydraulic tank. 3. Remove four bolts (1) and washers securing cover (3) to frame (4).4. Remove three bolts (2) the and washers from cover (3). 5. Using Tooling (A), lifting straps and a hoist, remove cover assembly (3) from the machine. Weight of cover assembly (3) is 70 kg (150 lb). 6. Remove eleven tube assemblies (4) from
