Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Park the machine on a level surface and position the upper structure at 90 degrees to the carbody.

Use a suitable lifting device to position pin assembly (1) on boom (2) and install pin assembly (1) and bolt (3) (not shown). The weight of pin assembly (1) is approximately 59 kg (130 lb).
Lower boom (2) onto Tooling (A), as shown.
Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release".
Drain the hydraulic tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities".

Remove the right side boom cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Boom Cylinder - Remove and Install".
Use a suitable lifting device in order to position Tooling (B) in the place of the right side boom cylinder. The weight of Tooling (B) is approximately 250 kg (550 lb).
Install pin (4) .
Prepare the machine for towing. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Towing the Machine".

Use two people in order to remove bolts (5) and cover (6). The weight of cover (6) is approximately 30 kg (65 lb).

Remove bolts (8). Use two people in order to remove guards (7). The weight of guards (7) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb).Note: The weight of guards (7) can increase due to accumulation of debris.

Disconnect hose assemblies (10) from swivel (9) .

Position Tooling (D) under the counterweight.
Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (C) and position Tooling (C) onto Tooling (D). The weight of Tooling (C) is approximately 249 kg (550 lb).Note: It is important to keep the upper structure level when the upper structure is being removed from the undercarriage frame. If the upper structure is not kept level, binding of the pinion shaft in the swing drive with the swing gear and bearing will result.
Use Tooling (C), Tooling (D), and Tooling (A) in order to raise the upper structure from the undercarriage frame. Raise the upper structure in 6.4 mm (0.25 inch) increments until the pinion shaft is clear of the swing
