At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Looks at the sight gauge to check the coolant level. The coolant level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and do not drink. Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
2. Loosen clamp (1), and disconnect the radiator hose from thermostat cover (2). Loosen clamp (3) and disconnect hose.3. Remove two bolts (4), cover (2), the water temperature regulator and gasket from housing assembly. 4. Remove the gasket and water temperature regulator (6) from cover (2). The following steps are for installing the water temperature regulator. 5. Clean all gasket material and rust from the contact surfaces of cover (2) and housing assembly (5).
The engine will run hot if the water temperature regulator is installed incorrectly.
6. Install water temperature regulator (61) down in the counterbore ofcover (2) as shown.7. Put the gasket and cover (2) in position, and install two bolts (4) that hold it.8. Put the radiator hose in position on the cover, and tighten clamp (1). Install hose and clamp (3) and tighten.9. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level.
