Removal Procedure
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Install a cap or a plug on all lines, hoses, and tubes in order to prevent foreign materials from entering the system.
Lower the implements to the ground. Relieve the system pressure in the hydraulic oil tank by removing the filler cap. Move the bulldozer control levers to all positions in order to relieve any pressure that is left in the system.

Remove bolt (2) and the clip from hose assembly (3) .
Disconnect hose assemblies (1) and (3) from the lift cylinder.

Attach a suitable lifting device to lift cylinder (6), as shown.
Remove four nuts (4), the bolts, the shims, and cap (5) from the rod assembly.

Remove the bolt and retainer (8) from pin (7). Remove pin (7), the spacers, and lift cylinder (6). The weight of lift cylinder (6) is 65 kg (143 lb).Removal of VPAT Bulldozer Lift Cylinder
Lower the implements to the ground. Relieve the system pressure in the hydraulic oil tank by removing the filler cap. Move the bulldozer control levers to all positions in order to relieve any pressure that is left in the system.

Remove two hydraulic hose assemblies (1) from the lift cylinder.

Attach a lifting sling to the lift cylinder.
Remove the retainer and pin (2). Remove pin (3) .
Remove the lift cylinder. The weight of the lift cylinder is 46 kg (101 lb).
