(1) Ride control accumulators (high precharge) (2) Ride control accumulators (low precharge) (3) Ride control valve (4) Lift cylindersThe optional ride control system provides the means for absorbing forces from the lift cylinders while the machine is traveling. These forces cause the machine to pitch when the machine is moving over rough terrain. The main components of the ride control system are accumulators (1) and (2), ride control valve (3), and lift cylinders (4).

(5) Ride control switchRide control switch (5) is mounted on the control panel in the operator compartment. The ride control system will absorb the pitching motion of an empty bucket and a loaded bucket. The pitching motion of an empty bucket or a loaded bucket acts against the lift cylinders. When the load acts against the head end of the lift cylinders, oil from the head end will try to flow into the accumulators. There are four accumulators in the ride control system. Two of the accumulators are charged at a higher pressure than the other two accumulators. Accumulators (2) (lower precharge) are used when the loader bucket is empty. When the loader bucket is loaded, accumulators (1) (higher precharge) and accumulators (2) (lower precharge) are used together because of the higher pitching motion that is working against the head end of the lift cylinders. The accumulators have an internal cylinder that is charged with nitrogen which acts as a shock absorber as the piston resists the oil flow. Spring (11) in the solenoid valve holds the valve spool in the closed position. Spring (8) holds accumulator valve (9) in the closed position. Pilot supply oil (6) is blocked at the solenoid valve. This also prevents the oil from the head end of lift cylinders (4) from flowing to accumulators which may eventually cause damage to the components of the ride control system. If the oil pressure in the head end of the lift cylinders is higher than the accumulators' pressure, the spool in the shuttle valve (7) will move to left. Pump supply oil (16) will flow through the shuttle valve. The oil will then fill the accumulators. If the accumulators' pressure is greater than the pressure in the head end of the lift cylinders, the valve spool of shuttle valve (7) will shift
