Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
If the oil becomes contaminated, premature component failure could result. Contaminated oil can also contribute to overheating. Use the following procedure to sample the oil in the system.
Start the engine and run the engine at high rpm.
Actuate all cylinders through a minimum of ten full cycles.
Lower the dump body to the frame and run the engine at low idle.

The sampling port is located on top of the hydraulic tank. Open the hood in order to access the sampling port. (1) Sampling port at the tank for the hoist system and steering system
Draw a 50 mL (1.7 fl oz) oil sample from the hydraulic system. The level of contaminants must be lower than the values in ISO 16/13. Oil samples can be obtained through the filler cap and oil samples can be obtained through sample valve (1) .
