Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove the bolt and washer (3) from the air inlet manifold.
Disconnect six fuel injection line nuts (4) from the fuel injection pump.
The fuel injection nozzles can be permanently damaged by twisting if only one wrench is used to loosen or tighten the fuel line nuts.Use one wrench to hold the nozzle and another to loosen the nut.
Hold the tops of fuel injection nozzles with a wrench. Loosen the six fuel injection line nuts (4) at fuel injection nozzles (2) .
Disconnect the fuel injection line nuts (4) at the fuel injection nozzles (2) and remove the fuel injection lines (1). Put caps or plugs on all openings immediately in order to prevent contamination in the fuel system.

If necessary, remove fuel injection line (5). Put caps or plugs on all openings immediately in order to prevent contamination in the fuel system.Installation Procedure

Remove the protective covers from the fuel line connections. Place the fuel injection lines in position on the engine. Tighten the fuel injection line nuts on the fuel injection pump and the fuel injection nozzles finger tight.

Hold the tops of fuel injection nozzles (2) in order to tighten the fuel injection line nuts (4) to a torque of 25 to 34 N m (18 to 25 lb ft).
Tighten six fuel injection line nuts (4) at the fuel injection pump to a torque of 25 to 34 N m (18 to 25 lb ft).
Install the bolt and washer (3) onto the air inlet manifold.
Prime the fuel system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Fuel System - Prime".
