Machine Shipping
Investigate the travel route for overpass clearances. Make sure there will be adequate clearance for the machine being transported. To prevent the machine from slipping while loading, or shifting in transit, remove ice, snow or other slippery material from the loading dock and the truck bed before loading.
Obey all state and local laws governing the weight, width and length of a load.Observe all regulations governing wide loads.
Before Loading the Machine
The following procedures are to prepare the machine to transport it as a 3048 mm (10 ft) load. If a 3658 mm (12 ft) load is allowable, the averaging ski beams may be left in place, but the other grade sensing components and the wheel assemblies on the front of the averaging ski beams must be removed.1. Park the machine on level ground and stop both engines. 2. Remove the elevation sensors from their mounts and install them in the shipping mounts on the handrails.3. Remove the grade sensing wheel assemblies from the cutter.4. If averaging skis are installed, remove the support brackets, feeler rods and wand guides.Attach a lifting device to one averaging ski beam, disconnect the beam guide from the mainframe, remove the outside retainer from the beam mounting bracket, slide the beam off the mounting bracket, then lift the beam away.Install the retainer on the mounting bracket, then remove the mounting bracket from the leg yoke. If applicable, remove the averaging ski and mounting bracket from the other side.
Move the cutter switch to OFF and stop engine A (cutter drive engine) before working on the cutter.Serious injuries can result from inadvertent starting of the cutter.
5. Remove the cutter. Refer to "Cutter Installation" in the "Setup Procedures" section. Perform the procedure in reverse order.Loading the Machine
1. Block the trailer or rail car wheels before loading (trailer shown). 2. Install the conveyor swing lock. 3. Turn front track overdrive selector to ON and the rear track overdrive selector to OFF. 4. Turn park brake selector (3) to OFF.5. Carefully back the machine onto the trailer. Keep the mainframe as low as possible.
Be alert while loading the machine.IF the track pump charge pressure drops below the required limit for pump swash plate control, the hydrostatic transmission braking capacity will be lost and the machine will "run away" down the loading ramp. You must react instantly to move the park brake selector to ON to avoid a runaway.Brace yourself for a quick stop anytime the park brake selector is moved to ON with the machine moving.
6. After the machine is in position, move travel lever (1) to the neutral position and move neutral lock (2) into place.7. Turn the park brake selector to ON.8. Lower the mainframe evenly to the lower limit with elevation control levers (4). 9. Install the shipping supports on the upper conveyor.
Do not ship the machine without using the conveyor shipping supports. Failure to support the conveyor during shipping will result in structural damage (or failure) of the conveyor mounting support system. The following practices will also prevent
