Some On-Highway Truck Engines may experience head gasket failures, liner flange cracks, and spacer plate gasket oil leaks after engine overhaul or repairs that require removal of the cylinder head.The 138-9381 Spacer Plate and 424-7052 Spacer Plate are no longer recommended to correct liner projection as a repair process.Solution
Refer to Reuse and Salvage Guidelines, SEBF9390, "Visual Inspection of Liner Seats for 3400, C15, C16, and C18 Series Engines" for the proper procedures.If ordering the 138-9381 Spacer Plate and/or 424-7052 Spacer Plate , the following items will be requested for :
Liner projection measurements from Testing and Adjusting, "Cylinder Liner Projection - Inspect"
Photographs of the block liner seat area as shown in Reuse and Salvage Guidelines, SEBF9390, "Visual Inspection of Liner Seats for 3400, C15, C16, and C18 Series Engines"
