Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you read this information and you understand this information.Procedure to Install the Space Heater
Note: Premature failure of the heater can be caused by a heater that is operated while the engine is running. To avoid issues, follow the procedure below, regardless of the use of the optional thermostat for the space heater.In order to operate with a 240 V power supply, connect the power supply of the space heater to the CR2-C1 terminal and the CR2-C2 terminal on the AC terminal strip. The terminals are located inside the wall mounted panel of the Electronic Modular Control Panel. The AC-CR2 relay contacts in series with the heater elements will open once the engine is running. Refer to Illustration 1.In order to operate with a 120 V power source, a separate customer supplied breaker and a magnetic contactor must be installed. The customer supplied breaker and the magnetic contactor controls the power to the space heater. The amperage that is drawn for a parallel connection of heater is 16.6 amperes. The AC-CR2 has a 10 amp contact rating, so the AC-CR2 can not be used. The rating of the breaker and the rating of the magnetic contactor must be at least 20 amperes. Refer to Illustration 2 for an example of wiring.Refer to Illustration 3 for the change in voltage for the space heater for a generator.

Setting the Thermostat
Generators that have been out of service for prolonged periods may have absorbed enough moisture in order to reduce the insulation resistance below the recommended limits. This condition can be prevented if the temperature of the generator's windings is always maintained above the ambient temperature. Adjust the thermostat of the space heater so that the temperature of the generator's windings is about 5° C (10° F) above the ambient temperature. Note that the thermostat is reading the temperature near the heater and does not measure the temperature of the generator's windings. The thermostat must be set approximately 30° C (54° F) above ambient temperature to keep the winding temperature 5° C (10° F) above ambient temperature.
