The space in the damper assembly (3) is filled with rubber (2). The vibration damper limits the torsional vibration. Replace the damper if any of the following conditions exist:
The damper is dented or cracked.
The paint on the damper is discolored from heat.
There is a large amount of gear train wear that is not caused by lack of oil.
Analysis of the oil has revealed that the front main bearing is badly worn.
The engine has had a failure because of a broken crankshaft.
