MID PCP MID 1821 FMI 09Conditions Which Generate This Code:There has been an abnormal update. The power train control processor (PCP) and the master control station (MCS) do not communicate.Test Step 1. CHECK THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS AND WIRING.Inspect the data link connections between the ICH or CSP and the PCP to the MCS. Inspect the harnesses for the following conditions:
Corrosion
Abrasion
Pinch points
Incorrect attachmentExpected Result:All harnesses are in good condition.Results:
OK - All harnesses are in good condition. Go to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - All harnesses are not in good condition.Repair: Repair the harnesses or replace the harnesses. All connectors, pins, and sockets should be completely mated and inserted. Repair the wiring so that it is free of corrosion, abrasion, pinch points, and incorrect attachment.STOPTest Step 2. VERIFY THAT THE CABLE IS CORRECT.

Use a DVM in order to verify the cable pinouts. Refer to illustration 1.

Ensure that the jumpers for the CAN termination loop are installed in each end of the cable.
Measure the resistance from pin 6 on the PCP connector to pin 7 on the PCP connector.
Measure the resistance from pin 5 on the connector for the master control station to pin 6 on the connector for the master control station. Expected Result:The resistance is less than 10 Ohms for all measurements.Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 10 Ohms for the CAN termination loops. Go to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The cable does NOT match the pinout specification or the resistance is out of range.Repair: Repair the cable or replace the cable. Verify that the diagnostic code is NOT active.STOPTest Step 3. ENSURE THAT THE NUMBER OF TERMINATING RESISTORS IS CORRECT.Ensure that there is NO terminating resistor that is connected at the master control station or at the PCP.Note: The terminating resistors for the data link for the master control station are located in the hardware for the control station and inside of the PCP.There should not be any terminating resistors that are connected to the data link for the master control station.Expected Result:There are no terminating resistors that are connected to the data link for the master control station.Results:
OK - There are no terminating resistors that are connected to the data link for the master control station. Go to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - A terminating resistor is installed.Repair: Remove the extra terminating resistor(s).STOPTest Step 4. MEASURE THE VOLTAGE AT THE MASTER CONTROL STATION.
Ensure that the keyswitch is OFF.
Measure and record the voltage at the batteries.
Disconnect the data link cable with the 8-pin connector from the ICH or the CSP.
Turn the keyswitch ON.
Use a digital volt meter (DVM) in order to measure the voltage between pin 1 and pin 2 on the 8-pin connector for the data link cable. Expected Result:The voltage
