(1) Radiator outlet (2) Auxiliary water pump (3) Inlet line to aftercooler (4) Brake oil cooler (5) Aftercooler (6) Radiator inlet (7) RadiatorA separate circuit aftercooler system (SCAC) is used to cool the air in the aftercooler. With the SCAC system, coolant is taken from radiator outlet (1) by auxiliary water pump (2). The coolant is sent directly to aftercooler (5) through pipe (3) and flows through the core assembly. The coolant flows through an elbow to brake oil cooler (4) and all the way back to radiator inlet (6) .The side of radiator (7) is connected by a hole in the plate between the top tanks of each radiator. The top and bottom tanks for the complete radiator are split so that approximately 1/3 of the total size is used for the SCAC cooling system The other two-thirds of the radiator is used for the jacket water cooling system.There is a connector assembly with a check valve that connects the bottom, rear of each aftercooler core assembly to the cylinder block. This is used to drain the aftercooler core assembly into the jacket water system when the coolant is drained from the engine. During engine operation, the check valves close in order to separate the two cooling systems.The air compressor is also cooled by the SCAC system. A small coolant line picks up coolant from the pressure side of the auxiliary water pump. The coolant is then sent through the cylinder head of the air compressor. The coolant then goes back to the suction side of the auxiliary water pump.The radiator is a folded core radiator. This means that each core assembly is an individual module that is designed to increase cooling efficiency and serviceability. Each of these modules can be serviced individually by removing the top tank. Each side of the system has a coolant level gauge in the top tank so the coolant level can easily be checked for either system.
