Check the travel route for overpass clearances. Be sure that there will be adequate clearance if the machine being transported is equipped with a ROPS (Rollover Protective Structure) or cab.Block the trailer or flatcar wheels before loading the machine onto the trailer or flatcar. Remove ice, snow or slippery material from the loading dock and trailer or flatcar before loading.
Lower the bowl and apron. Move the cushion hitch lever to LOCKDOWN.Early Machines with Parking/Emergency Brake Lever
To prevent damage to the brake rotochambers, the machine must be transported with the brakes released, and the air system drained completely.
Drain the air system as follows to prevent the brakes from being applied automatically;1. Block the tractor and scraper wheels. Raise the air pressure to the normal (GREEN) range. 2. Release the parking/emergency brake. Stop the engine. Air pressure must be in the (GREEN) range. 3. Turn off the disconnect switch and remove the key. 4. Open the tractor emergency air reservoir drain valve. Allow the air to drain. 5. Disconnect the two (tractor to scraper) air delivery lines from the relay emergency valve, at the rear of the scraper. 6. Open drains on the tractor air reservoirs. Allow the air to drain. 7. Open the drains on the scraper air reservoirs. Allow the air to drain.8. Close all air drain valves and connect the hoses.Later Machines
1. Turn OFF the battery disconnect switch and remove the key. 2. Drain the two tractor air reservoirs. Allow the air to drain. Close the valve. 3. Drain one scraper air reservoir. Allow the air to drain. Close the valve.All Machines
Protect the engine cooling system with antifreeze, to the lowest expected temperature on the travel route, or drain cooling system completely.
Install and lock all vandalism guards, covers, and caps.Cover engine exhaust opening to prevent turbocharger "windmilling" in transit.Cover the operator's seat or close and lock cab doors.Block tires and secure the machine with tie-downs.Check the regulations covering transportation of cylinders containing compressed gas (cushion hitch accumulator).Proper tire shipping pressures must be observed when shipping a rubber tired machine. Use the chart or consult tire dealer for shipping pressures.
Consult your tire dealer for operating pressures when the machine is put into operation.
Roading
1. TON-MPH limitations of the tires must be observed. Consult your tire dealer for speed limit of the tires involved.2. Bring the coolant, oil in all compartments, wheel coolant and fuel to proper levels.3. Clean the windshield, and the side and rear glass. Clean all lights and reflectors.4. Make sure all headlights, taillights, turn signals and hazard warning lights function properly.5. Have a fire extinguisher, flares and reflectors with the machine.6. If it is necessary to leave machine unattended: a. Lower all equipment.b. Neutralize the transmission and apply the transmission lock.c. Set parking brake.d. Stop the engine, turn OFF the disconnect switch and remove the key.e. Install and lock all vandalism guards, covers and caps. If equipped with a cab, close and lock the cab door and windows.f. At night set out flares and/or reflectors.
