Base of Propulsion Lever (1) Neutral switchNote: For additional information about the machine wiring that is described in this section, refer to the Electrical Schematic stories in this publication.Neutral switch (1) is located at the base of the propulsion lever. The boot on the propulsion lever must be removed in order to access this switch. When the propulsion lever is in the NEUTRAL position, neutral switch (1) is closed. This switch is open when the propulsion lever is in the FORWARD position and open when the propulsion lever is in the REVERSE position. The neutral switch receives power from fuse "A6". The neutral switch controls the coil of the neutral switch relay. When the neutral switch is closed, the coil of the relay is energized.

Rear of Steering Column (2) Neutral switch relayThe relay bank is located inside the steering column. The bank contains neutral switch relay (2). This relay is used in the vibratory electrical system and in the water spray electrical system. A cover plate on the rear of the steering column provides access to this component. Neutral switch relay (2) ensures that the vibratory system will not operate while the propulsion lever is in the NEUTRAL position. This relay also ensures that the water spray system will not operate in the INTERMITTENT mode while the propulsion lever is in the NEUTRAL position. This type of relay is equipped with five contacts. Contact "85" and contact "86" of the relay are connected to either side of the coil of the relay. Contact "30" and contact "87a" are the normally closed switch contacts of the relay. When the coil of the relay is de-energized, contact "30" and contact "87a" are closed. When the coil of the relay is energized, contact "30" and contact "87" of the relay are closed.Contact "30" of neutral switch relay (2) receives power from fuse "B4". When the coil of the relay is de-energized, power transfers from contact "87a" of the relay to the vibratory control switch. Also, power is transfered to contact "86" of the water spray relay. In this case, the vibratory system can be operated, and the water spray system can operate in the INTERMITTENT mode. The coil of neutral switch relay (2) is controlled by neutral switch (1). When the neutral switch is closed and the propulsion lever is in the NEUTRAL position, power is available at contact "85" of the neutral switch relay. Contact "86" of this relay is connected to a frame ground. When the coil of the neutral switch relay is energized, contact "30" and contact "87a" of the relay are open. In this case the vibratory system will not operated. Also, the water spray system will not operate while the machine is in the INTERMITTENT mode.
