Schematic of the signal wire for the Engine SpeedThe CID 0190 FMI 02 diagnostic code is recorded when the power train electronic control module (ECM) reads an abnormal signal from the engine ECM. The power train ECM will be unable to calculate the ratio of the torque converter. The power train ECM compares the signals from the engine speed sensor and the torque converter output speed sensor. A CID 0190 FMI 02 diagnostic code is recorded when the engine speed signal is below the dropout signal level, and the torque converter output speed sensor senses the engine speed as above low idle.Note: The engine must be running in order for the power train ECM to show this diagnostic code.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR OTHER DIAGNOSTIC CODE
Check for an active diagnostic code of a MID 036 CID 0190 from the Engine ECM.Expected Result:The diagnostic code of MID 036 CID 0190 from the Engine ECM is active. Results:
OK - The diagnostic code of MID 036 CID 0190 from the Engine ECM is active.Repair: Stop this procedure and perform the procedure for the diagnostic code of MID 036 CID 0190. Stop.
NOT OK - The diagnostic code of MID 036 CID 0190 from the Engine ECM is not present. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN IN THE MACHINE HARNESS
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the power train ECM.
Disconnect machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the engine ECM.
At the machine harness connectors, measure the resistance from J2-38 of the power train ECM to J1-38 of the engine ECM.Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5.0 Ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5.0 Ohms. The signal circuit in the machine harness is correct. Proceed to Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is not less than 5.0 Ohms.Repair: The signal circuit (wire 450-YL) is open in the machine harness. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness. Stop.Test Step 3. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT
At the machine harness connector for the power train ECM, measure the resistance between J2-38 (wire 450-YL) and all contacts that are used in the machine harness connectors.
At the machine harness connector for the engine ECM, measure the resistance between J1-38 (wire 450-YL) and all contacts that are used in the machine harness connectors.Expected Result:Each resistance is greater than 5000 Ohms. Results:
OK - Each resistance is greater than 5000 Ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Step 4.
NOT OK - Each resistance is not greater than 5000 Ohms.Repair: There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between J2-38 (wire 450-YL) and the contact with the low resistance. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness. Stop.Test Step 4. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS STILL PRESENT
Clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Start the engine and run the engine
