Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Raise the hood by activating the switch. Turn battery disconnect the switch to the off position.

Disconnect breather hose (1) from the separator for the crankcase breather.
Remove bolts (2) from valve mechanism cover (3).Note: The bolts are of two different lengths. Note the positions of the different bolts.
Remove valve mechanism cover (3) from the cylinder head.Note: Remove the valve mechanism cover vertically to avoid damage to the electronic unit injectors.

Remove gasket (4) from valve mechanism cover (3).Installation Procedure

Thoroughly clean all gasket surfaces of valve mechanism cover (3). Clean t the gasket surfaces of the cylinder head.
Install a new gasket (4) to valve mechanism cover (3).Note: Ensure that the gasket is fully seated into the groove of the valve mechanism cover.

Ensure that harness assemblies (6) are not in contact with rocker arms of valve mechanism cover base (5). Ensure that harness assemblies (6) are not trapped during the assembly procedure.Note: Install the valve mechanism cover vertically to avoid damage to the electronic unit injectors.
Install bolts (2) to valve cover mechanism (3)
Tighten bolts (2) in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 6. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 22 N m (195 lb in).
Tighten the clamp to torque of 5 N m (44 lb in) for breather hose (1)
