Refer to Special Publication, SEBF8032, "Piston Pumps and Motors". During reconditioning, correct any conditions that might have caused the original failure. Information is available to analyze failures on the piston pumps and the motor. Refer to Special Publication, SEBD0641, "Analyzing Axial Piston Pump and Motor Failures".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision component. Perform assembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all times.

Use Tooling (B) in order to install retaining ring (22) on shaft (19) .
Use Tooling (B) in order to install retaining ring (24) and bearing (23) on shaft (19), if the retaining ring and the bearing were previously removed.
Install shaft (19) on housing (21) .
Use Tooling (C) in order to install retaining ring (25) .
Install lip seal (26) on the housing.
Use Tooling (C) in order to install retaining ring (27) .
Install plate (20) on housing (21) .
Install washer (11), spring (10), and washer (9) on cylinder block (12) .
Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Put barrel assembly (12) in a press. Install a suitable piece of square steel stock against washer (9). Put slight compression on washer (9) with the press. Use Tooling (A) in order to install retaining ring (8) .Note: Three pins (13) must be installed in the large grooves in the barrel assembly. Retainer (14) must be flush with the end of the barrel assembly.
Install three pins (13), retainer (14), retainer guide (15), slipper guide (16) and seven pistons (17) on barrel assembly (12) .
Install barrel assembly (12) and the pistons on housing (21) .
Install bearing (5) and pin (18) on end cap (1), if the bearing and the pin were previously removed.
Install valve plate (6) on end cap (1) .
Install O-ring seal (3) on plug (2). Install plug (2) on end cap (1) .
Position end cap (1) and gasket (4) on housing (21). Install bolts (7) .End By: Install the axle propel motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Motor (Axle Propel) - Install".
