Reintjes®
Marine GearsIf the companion flange is ordered with a Reintjes Marine Gear, this flange is shipped bolted to the gear output flange with ground body (fitted) bolts. Each bolt is fitted in a specific hole in the flanges. When the companion flange is removed and reinstalled on the gear flange, all the bolts MUST be reinstalled in the same holes from which they were removed.
There is a "No. 1" stamped on the gear flange and a "No. 1" stamped on the companion flange. These two timing marks must be lined up with each other. See illustration.
Location of the two timing marks and marked holes.Each bolt hole in the companion flange is numbered in sequence, and each bolt has a number stamped on one flat of the head. At assembly, install each bolt in its numbered hole with the timing marks in alignment. No. 1 bolt goes in No. 1 hole labeled as such in the companion flange, No. 2 Bolt in No. 2 hole, etc.
Failure to do this will probably result in the bolts being either too loose or too tight. Loose bolts can break or cause damage to the holes. Tight bolts make assembly and/or disassembly difficult or IMPOSSIBLE.
In two known cases it has been necessary to saw off the bolts and remachine the flanges for new, custom made fitted bolts.
