Information:
Start by:a. Remove tire and rim assemblies.b. Remove final drive planet carriers.
Typical Example1. Fasten tooling (A) and a suitable hoist to the wheel assembly.2. Remove bolts (1), plate (2) and the shims from wheel assembly (3).
Typical Example3. Remove hub (4) from the spindle. Remove wheel assembly (3) from the spindle. The weight of the wheel assembly is 98 kg (215 lb). 4. Use tooling (B) and a press to remove the bushing from the inside of hub (4). 5. Use tooling (C) to remove bearing cone (5) from the hub.
Typical Example6. Remove outer half of Duo-Cone seal (6) from the hub assembly. 7. Remove bearing cups (7) from the hub.
Typical Example8. Remove inner half of Duo-Cone seal (8) and bearing cone (9) from the spindle. The following steps are for the installation of the wheels, bearings and Duo-Cone seals.
Typical Example Before installing the Duo-Cone seals, refer to the topic Duo-Cone Seals in this module.9. Use tooling (D) to install the Duo-Cone seal in the retainer.10. Install bearing cone (9) on the spindle. 11. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (7), and install them in the wheel assembly.
Typical Example12. Install the Duo-Cone seal in the wheel assembly with tooling (D).
Typical Example13. Fasten tooling (A) and a suitable hoist to wheel assembly (3) as shown and put it in position on the spindle. 14. Heat bearing cone (5) to a maximum temperature of 135° C (275° F) and install it on hub (4). 15. Use tooling (B) and a press to install the bushing in hub (4).
Typical Example16. Install hub (4) and the bearing on the spindle. 17. Use an outside micrometer (10), and measure the thickness of plate (2) at the three small holes. Find the plate average thickness. 18. Install plate (2) without shims on the spindle. Install three of the bolts that hold it so there are even spaces between the bolts. Turn wheel assembly slowly by hand and tighten the bolts to a torque of 100 15 N m (75 11 lb ft). 19. Loosen the bolts until the plate is free.20. Using torque wrench (12) on mounting bolt (11) for the wheel rim, write down the rolling torque that it takes to continuously turn the wheel. Grip length for torque wrench (12) Distance A is 203 mm (8.0 in).21. While turning the wheel assembly, tighten the bolts again to a torque of 25 7 N m (20 5 lb ft). 22. Use a depth micrometer (13) and measure through the three small holes in the plate. Find the average depth.23. Find the difference between the two average measurements in Steps 17 and 22. The difference is the gap between the end of the spindle and the plate. 24. Remove the plate from the spindle. Install an amount of shims (14), the same thickness as the average gap found in Step 23 plus 0.13 mm (.005 in). 25. Install plate (2) and all of the bolts. Tighten the bolts evenly to a
