Dear Cat Product Owner:
The existing recoil spring needs to be reworked on the products listed below. The existing recoil spring can rust during early hour operation resulting in failure. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Cat dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
If you are no longer the owner of this product(s), please contact your local Cat dealer so that our records can be updated. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 08Dec2016 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
Ensure that all safety information, warnings, and instructions are read and understood before any operation or any maintenance procedures are performed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual "Safety Section".
1. Park the machine on a hard level surface, and ground the bucket/tool. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
2. Stop the engine and lock the hydraulic lockout control.
3. Remove the idler and the recoil spring. Refer to KENR9844, Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Idler and Recoil Spring - Remove". Refer to Image1.3.1.

4. If the recoil spring has no rust, refer to Image1.4.1. If the recoils spring has minor rust (no corrosion pit on the spring surface), refer to Image1.4.2. Add anti-rust paint.
4.1 If the recoil spring has rust, remove the anti-rust paint partially by degreaser to check how deeply it is rusted.
4.2 If the recoil spring has metal surface and no corrosion pit, add anti-rust paint. Refer to Image1.4.2.
Do not remove rust by a file or wire brush. Refer to Image1.4.3.

5. Add additional anti-rust paint.
Before painting, wear appropriate protect equipment and read the paint SDS (Safety Data Sheet) carefully.
5.1 Mix the anti-rust paint (1) and thinner (2) well at a proportion of 1:1. (Anti-rust paint 210ml and thinner 210ml, total 420ml for one recoil spring). Refer to Images1.5.1 and 1.5.2.

5.2 Paint the anti-rust paint on the recoil spring surface. The target paint thickness is 30 micron millimeters.

6. If the recoil spring has rust and corrosion pits on the spring surface, refer to Image1.6.1, replace the existing recoil spring group with a new 297-9275 Recoil Spring Group. Refer
