However, the Transmission ECM is not receiving expected operating parameter information from the Messenger. The possible causes of the CID 0588 FMI 14 diagnostic code are listed below:
The software that is installed on the Messenger is incorrect.
The software that is installed on the Transmission ECM is incorrect.
A new ECM has been installed but the ECM is not the correct part.Note: Ensure that the CID 0588 FMI 14 diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Test Step 1. VERIFY THE HARDWARE AND THE SOFTWARE PART NUMBERS

OK - The CID 0588 FMI 14 diagnostic code is not active. The diagnostic code does not currently exist. The initial diagnostic code could have been caused by a problem during start-up with one of the controls of the ECM. Resume normal operation.STOP
NOT OK - The CID 0588 FMI 14 diagnostic code is active. The diagnostic code has not been corrected.Repair: Repeat this procedure again and verify that the information is correct. If the cause of the problem is not found, the ECM that has activated the diagnostic code may have failed.Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact the Technical Communicator at your dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar®. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM that has activated the diagnostic code.
