Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking.When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work under a heavy component.Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed.
Note: Inspect the O-ring seals. Replace O-ring seals that are worn or damaged.

Use Tooling (A), Tooling (B), Tooling (C), and a suitable lifting device in order to position transmission and transfer gears (1) onto Tooling (D). The weight of transmission and transfer gears (1) is approximately 1405 kg (3100 lb).

Disconnect harness assemblies (2). Remove the connecting hardware and position harness assemblies (2) out of the way.
Disconnect hose assembly (3) .
Repeat Step 2 through Step 3 for the remaining clutch housing.

Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device onto clutch assembly (4). The weight of clutch assembly (4) is approximately 45 kg (100 lb).
Remove bolts (5) in order to remove clutch assembly (4) .

Remove O-ring seal (6). Remove O-ring seals (7) .

Remove bolt (8) in order to remove yoke (9) .

Remove bolts (10) in order to remove cover (11) .

Remove collar (14), shift fork (15), and rod (16) as a unit.

Remove spring pin (17) in order to remove rod (16) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Remove retaining rings (18), spacers (19), springs (20), and balls (21) .

Use Tooling (E) and a suitable press in order to remove gear (28), bearing cone (29) and
