Connections of Auxiliary Third Function Port B Solenoid Valve
This diagnostic code is associated with the Auxiliary Third Function Port B Solenoid (attachment). The FMI 05 means that the Implement ECM has determined that the current for the solenoid circuit is below normal. The ECM will apply a current amount that corresponds to the input signals from the operator controls.Some possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The energize circuit of the solenoid is open or has a poor connection.
The return circuit of the solenoid is open or has a poor connection.
The solenoid has failed.
The ECM has failed. This condition is unlikely. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Note: The resistance of the solenoid coil should be 5 0.3 ohms at 25 °C (77.0 °F).Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Disconnect the solenoid from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire E920-BR(Brown)) to contact 2 (wire J813-BK(Black)).
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the CID 0491 FMI 05 diagnostic code. Expected Result:The active diagnostic code changes from an FMI "05" diagnostic code to an FMI "06" diagnostic code after the jumper wire is installed.Results:
YES - The active diagnostic code changes from an FMI "05" diagnostic code to an FMI "06" diagnostic code when the jumper wire is installed. The solenoid has failed.Repair: The solenoid has failed. Repeat this Test Step "CHECK THE SOLENOID" in order to verify the solenoid failure. Replace the solenoid. Verify that the new solenoid corrects the problem.STOP
NO - The CID 0491 FMI 05 diagnostic code remains active. The jumper wire does not affect the status of the diagnostic code. The solenoid is not causing the problem. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 from the Implement ECM.
The jumper wire that was installed in the previous test step remains in place.
At the machine harness connector J1 for the Implement ECM, measure the resistance between the return contact J1-60 (wire J813-BK(Black)) and the energize contact J1-59 (wire E920-BR(Brown)). Expected Result:The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms.Results:
OK - The measurement of the resistance is less than 5 ohms. The circuit is not open in the machine harness. Proceed to Test Step 3.
