Lower the temperature of bearing cups (13). Install two bearing cups (13) in the wheel.

Use Tooling (H) in order to install the outer half of Duo-Cone seal (12). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Duo-Cone Conventional Seals - Install" for the correct procedure.

Use Tooling (E) and a suitable press to install the bushing to the inside of hub (10) .

Raise the temperature of bearing cone (11). Install bearing cone (11) on hub (10) .

Install Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to wheel (6). The weight of wheel (6) is approximately 119 kg (262 lb).
Install wheel (6) in position on the wheel spindle.
Install hub (10) on the wheel spindle.

Measure the thickness of retainer (7) at the three small holes. Calculate the average thickness and record the average thickness.

Note: Bolts (9) cannot be reused. Always install new bolts.
Position retainer (7). Install three bolts (9) finger tight in the locations shown in Illustration 10.
Tighten three bolts (7) to a torque of 100 15 N m (74 10 lb ft).
Rotate the wheel for one revolution and tighten three bolts (9) again to a torque of 100 15 N m (74 10 lb ft).
Loosen three bolts (9) .
Tighten three bolts (9) to a torque of 34 7 N m (25 5 lb ft).
Rotate the wheel for one revolution and tighten three bolts (9) again to a torque of 34 7 N m (25 5 lb ft).

Measure the distance from retainer (7) to the end of the wheel spindle. Measure the distance through the three small holes in retainer (7) .
Record the average of the three depth measurements. Determine the difference between the average thickness that was measured in Step 10 and the average depth that was measured in Step 17. The difference is the gap that is between the retainer and the end of the spindle.

Remove retainer (7). Install the necessary shims (8) .Note: The shims must be within 0.025 mm (0.001 inch) of the thickness in Step 18.
Install retainer (7) and the remainder of bolts (9). Tighten eight bolts (9) to a torque of 60 12 N m (44 9 lb ft). Turn eight bolts (9) an additional 120° 10°.

Install snap ring (3) to hub (5) .

Use Tooling (C) to pull the ends of snap ring (3) together in order to install ring gear (4) .

Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to final drive and planetary carrier (2). The weight of final drive and planetary carrier (2) is approximately 65 kg (143 lb).
Install Tooling (B) in the position shown in Illustration 15.
Install 18 bolts (1). Remove Tooling (B). Install remaining two bolts (1). Tighten 20 bolts (1) to a torque of 270 25 N m (200 20 lb ft).End By:
Install the axle shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle Shaft - Remove".
Install the tire and rim. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim".
