GLAND-CYL 2385564 - Caterpillar

Start By:
Remove the front tires and rimsfor the 834H. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Front) - Remove".
Remove the front compactor wheels for the 836H. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Compactor Wheel (Front) - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: SERVICE DATA: TOOLING (ZZ) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN.Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to front axle guard (1) .

Remove bolts (2) .

Remove bolts (3). Remove axle guard (1). The weight of axle guard (1) is approximately 73 kg (160 lb).
Repeat Step 1 through Step 3 for the opposite side.

Install Tooling (B) and suitable cribbing under front drive shaft (4). The weight of drive shaft (4) is approximately 60 kg (132 lb).

Remove bolts (5). Use Tooling (B) in order to lower front drive shaft (4) onto the suitable cribbing.

Disconnect tube assembly (6) from fixed axle (7). Repeat for the opposite side.

Disconnect clips (8) and (9) .

Attach a suitable lifting device to fixed axle (7) .

Install a suitable floor jack under fixed axle (7) .

Remove bolts (10) and (11). Repeat for the opposite side.

Use the suitable lifting device and the suitable floor jack in order to remove fixed axle (7). The weight of fixed axle (7) is approximately 3447 kg (7600 lb).
