PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR INSTALLING PHOSPHATE COOLANT ADDITIVE TO THE COOLING SYSTEM ON CERTAIN D11T TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS
MODELS INVOLVED - D11T
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
Phosphate Coolant Additive needs to be added to the cooling system of your machine. The Phosphate Coolant Additive provides for an oxide barrier to prevent nitrates from reacting with aluminum and the resultant loss of the nitrates. Cavitation erosion can take place over an extended period of time if the nitrite level in the coolant system becomes too low. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 12Jan2012 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
Know and understand the tractors coolant system before using this rework procedure. The following reference documents can used: Special Instruction SEBD0518 - Know Your Cooling System; Operation and Maintenance Manual - SEBU8499
Understand the following Safety Recommendations before using this rework procedure.
****Safety Recommendations****
Always wear eye protection when you perform any service work on a cooling system.
Image1.1.1
Release the pressure in the cooling system before performing any service work. If the pressure in the cooling system is not released or the temperature of the system is not permitted to cool, steam or hot water may be released when you remove the radiator cap. This may cause personal injury. To release the pressure in a cooling system, let the system cool, put a heavy cloth over the cap and loosen it SLOWLY.
** Do not allow undiluted corrosion inhibitors or diluted/undiluted radiator cleaners to come in contact with the skin or eyes.
** Always follow the manufacturer's instructions when handling corrosion inhibitors, radiator cleaners, or antifreeze. Be especially sure to follow the manufacturer's recommendations concerning toxicity.
** Glycol may catch fire when it is hot or exposed to an open flame. Do not weld, cut or use an open flame near leaking coolant that contains antifreeze.
** Do not attempt to tighten any hose clamps while the cooling system is hot or under pressure. If there is a failure of the hose clamp when it is tightened, a sudden loss of hot coolant or steam could result.
REWORK PROCEDURE
