Remove & Install Fuel Injection Lines
FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Clean the area around each fuel line connection.2. Remove bolt (1) from shield (4).3. Remove bolts (2) and bolts (3) that hold shield (4). 4. Remove bolt (5) and bolts (7). Remove shield (4).5. Disconnect all fuel injection line nuts (6) at the fuel injection pump housing.
Do not let the tops of the fuel nozzles turn when the fuel lines are loosened. If the tops of the nozzles turn, the nozzles will be damaged.
6. Hold the tops of the fuel nozzles with a wrench, and disconnect all fuel injection line nuts (9) at the fuel nozzles as shown.7. Remove two bolts (8) to the spacers that hold the fuel injection lines to the cylinder head. Remove the fuel injection lines.8. Put 5F-3807 Caps and 2F-2990 Plugs on the fuel injection lines, pumps, and nozzles to keep dirt and foreign material out of the fuel system. The following step are for installation of the fuel injection lines.9. Remove the protection covers from the fuel line connections. Put the fuel injection lines in position and tighten nuts (6) and (9) until they are finger tight.10. Install the spacers and two bolts (8) that hold the fuel injection lines to the cylinder head.11. Use Tool (A) and tighten nuts (6) to a torque of 40 7 N m (30 5 lb ft).
Do not let the tops of the fuel nozzles turn when the fuel lines are tightened. If the tops of the nozzles turn, the nozzles will be damaged.
12. Use Tool (A), a wrench, and a torque wrench to tighten nuts (9). Tighten nuts (9) to a torque of 40 7 N m (30 5 lb ft).13. Put shield (4) in position. Install bolt (5) and bolts (7).14. Install bolts (3), bolt (2), and bolt (1).15. Remove (bleed) the air from the fuel lines. See the topic, "Priming The Fuel System" in the Maintenance Manual.
