This section describes how to perform hook modifications in order to reduce the force going back into the coupler cylinder. These modifications will reduce the magnitude of pressure spikes.Note: Refer to Service Manual, KENR6595, "Center-Lock Pin Grabber Coupler", "Coupler Cylinder - Remove and Install" for the proper procedure for detaching the cylinder from the hook before performing the modifications.Inspection of the Couplers
Improper operation, lubrication, maintenance or repair of this product can be dangerous and could result in injury or death.Do not operate or perform any lubrication, maintenance or repair on this product, until you have read and understood the operation, lubrication, maintenance and repair information.
Prior to applying this operation, verify that the coupler system is operating correctly. Verifying that there are no other possible system problems is also critical. Perform a cylinder leak down test per Special Instruction, REHS5682, "Procedure for Inspection & Testing of the Hydraulic Cylinder for the Center-Lock Coupler". Verify that the screens have been removed from the coupler control valve per Special Instruction, REHS5661, "Procedure to Rework the Quick Coupler Control Valve on Certain Excavators", in order to verify that there are no existing hydraulic system issues.Then perform an inspection of the couplers mechanical components per Special Instruction, REHS5676, "The Inspection Procedure for the Center-Lock Coupler". If any hydraulic or mechanical problems are found, correct these issues first and validate that the operator understands the correct operating procedure for attaching a work tool per the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8471.Apply the hook ramp modification if:
No existing problems were found.
The coupler continues to exhibit looseness after correcting any identified issues.Hook Modification

Refer to Illustration 3 for the modification dimensions.For 292-4152 Quick Coupler Gp (DB linkage - wide body), machine the 318-2552 Hook (wide) ramp profile by 4 degrees in order to convert the hook into a 421-4236 Hook. Refer to Illustration 3 for the modification dimensions.
