Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Check for Codes
A. Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector. Use the appropriate procedure to troubleshoot any associated codes or active codes before continuing.
Codes
Result: There are active codes or associated codes.
Repair: Troubleshoot and repair the codes before proceeding with the next step.
Result: There are no active codes or associated codes.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Check the High-Pressure Fuel System
A. With the engine shutdown, use Cat ET to check the status of the "Fuel Rail Pressure (absolute)". After the engine has been shutdown for 10 minutes, "Fuel Rail Pressure (absolute)" will be less than 5,000 kPa (725 psi). If the fuel rail pressure does not fall to less than 5,000 kPa (725 psi), there is a problem with the fuel rail pressure sensor. Replace the sensor.
B. Perform the "Fuel System Functional Test". Cat ET will display an error message that indicates the problem. Follow the repair procedure for the error message. If the test aborts for an active diagnostic make sure to troubleshoot the code first.
High-Pressure Fuel System
Result: The high-pressure fuel system is NOT OK.
Repair: Repair or replace worn or damaged parts in the high-pressure fuel system.
Return the engine to service.
