GLOW PLUG 2230387 - Caterpillar

Engine Operation
Use the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to check the "Current Totals" for excessive idle time and/or for a high load factor which would be indicative of poor operating habits.Note: Engine operation may also be affected by environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures.Fuel Supply
Check the fuel lines for the following problems: restrictions, collapsed lines and pinched lines. If problems are found with the fuel lines, repair the lines and/or replace the lines.
Check the fuel tank for debris which may block the fuel supply.
Check for air in the low pressure fuel supply circuit. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Air In Fuel - Test". If air is present in the low pressure fuel supply circuit, prime the fuel system. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Fuel System - Prime".
Check the fuel pressure. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Fuel System Pressure - Test".
Check fuel quality. In temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F), check for solidified fuel (wax). Refer to Special Publication, SEBU6251, "Commercial Diesel Engine Fluids Recommendations".Engine Speed/Timing
Calibrate the engine speed/timing sensors. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Speed/Timing Sensor - Calibrate".Electrical Connectors
Check the condition of the connectors at the Electronic Control Module (ECM). Check for the correct installation of the J2/P2 and J1/P1 ECM connectors. Check the connectors for the fuel injectors for damage. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".Unit Injectors
Perform the "Injector Solenoid Test" on Cat ET in order to determine if all of the injector solenoids are being energized by the ECM.
Perform the "Cylinder Cutout Test" on Cat ET in order to identify any misfiring cylinder(s). Refer to Troubleshooting, "Injector Solenoid Circuit - Test" for more information.Air Inlet and Exhaust System
Check for an air filter restriction. If necessary, service the air filter element.
Check for the correct operation of the turbocharger. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Turbocharger - Test" for more information.
Check for air inlet restrictions and/or leaks. Check for exhaust restrictions. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Air Inlet and Exhaust System - Inspect" for more information.Accessory Equipment
Check all accessory equipment for problems that may create excessive load on the engine. Repair any damaged components or replace any damaged components.
