PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR INSPECTING AND POSSIBLY REWORKING THE OIL PAN
MODELS INVOLVED - CERTAIN G3512E, G3512H, AND G3516H GENERATOR SETS
Dear Cat Product Owner:
The oil pan needs to be inspected and possibly reworked on certain G3512E, G3512H, and G3516H Generator Sets. If the oil pan is not effectively secured against the base rails, a stress condition could occur, that may cause cracking of welds on the oil pan mounting blocks, where the oil pan mates with the rail, resulting in an oil leak. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Cat dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
If you are no longer the owner of this product(s), please contact your local Cat dealer so that our records can be updated. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 10Jan2017 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, and urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
Inspect oil pan for oil leaking and weld cracking on oil pan mounting blocks at rail mating locations.
Image1.1.1
Inspect areas where oil pan is attached to rails to confirm effective secure mounting, per following instructions.
Use an .015? generator shim as a ?feeler gage? to determine gap size at oil pan mounting locations (1 thru 10 in Image 1.2.2).
If .015? gage doesn?t fit between the oil pan and rail block, no shimming required at this mounting location.
Take measurement in front of and behind the mounting bolts, as well as at the top and bottom of oil pan bosses locations 1 thru 10 (reference Image 1.2.3).
If .015? gage fits between the oil pan boss and rail, measure the total gap with feeler gages to determine number of shims required.
Once all gaps have been measured, follow next steps for shim install procedure.

Shim install procedure: Loosen hardware, add shims, reassemble, and realign as described in following rework procedure.
1. Loosen the bolt on the side where gaps were found. (RH or LH side)
- Do not remove bolts entirely
2. Start at Location 1 (LH) or 6 (RH) depending on gap position
3. Measure gap at position 1 or 6
- Measure at top (and bottom of block if possible)
4. Shim any gap with standard generator shims (Reference Figure A in Image 1.3.2)
5. Tighten
