The harness code that is received from the Caterpillar Monitoring System is invalid. This invalid code is obtained through Cat Data Link.
The wrong harness code (wire 733-BR, 734-WH, 735-OR, 736-YL, 737-GN, 738-BR or 200-BK) is open or shorted to ground.
The wrong harness code plug is installed.
The ECM is faulty. This is unlikely.Service Notes: An incorrect harness code that is connected to the Caterpillar Monitoring System can cause the CID 0650 FMI 11 to be recorded. Ensure that the CID 0650 FMI 11 is on hold and that the diagnostic code present indicator shows "SERV CODE". This procedure can cause new diagnostic codes to be recorded. Ignore these created diagnostic codes. When the procedure is completed, clear the created diagnostic codes.System Response:The result of this diagnostic code is listed below:The diagnostic code will be shown on the display screen. Enter harness code mode (Mode 1) of the Caterpillar Monitoring System.
Check that the harness code that is showing matches the sales model. The harness code for AP- 655C is 16.Expected Result:The harness code that consists of two digits should match the sales model.Results:
OK - Monitoring system harness code is correct. Proceed to test Step 2.
NOT OK - Monitoring system harness code plug is not correct. Repair: Repair the harness code plug of the monitoring system or replace the harness code plug with a correct plug. See Service Manual, KENR5038, "Caterpillar Monitoring System". Stop.Test Step 2. CHECK THE CONFIGURATION HARNESS CODE PLUG.
Remove the configuration harness code plug from the harness.
Inspect the harness code plug for corroded connector contacts. If necessary, clean the connector contacts.
Check continuity between contact 5 (wire 736-YL) of the harness code plug and each of the other contacts in the plug. Some of the contacts in the plug are intentionally empty. Contact 5 (wire 736-YL) should not have continuity with the following contacts: contact 1, contact 2, contact 3, contact 4, contact 6, contact 7 and contact 8. You should have continuity between all the contacts except contact 5.Expected Result:Continuity should be as described in Step 2 C.Results:
OK - Continuity is correct. Proceed to test Step 3.
NOT OK - Continuity is NOT as described in the above step.Repair: Repair the harness code plug or replace the harness code plug. Stop.Test Step 3. CHECK THE HARNESS.
The harness code plug remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors from the Caterpillar Monitoring System.
Check the continuity of each harness code wire. Check the continuity from the connector of the harness code plug to the machine harness connectors. The harness code wires are the following: 733-BR contact 3, 734-WH contact 6, 735-OR contact 12, 736-YL contact 16, 737-GN contact 22
