Previously, the crankshaft fillets were shot peened.The shot peening process is critical to the strength of the crankshaft, and repeening the crankshaft fillets is necessary after regrinding. This process requires special equipment and procedures. With an induction hardened crankshaft, the fillets do not require any rework after regrinding.
Adaptable To: The new crankshafts are adaptable to first production. The parts service part numbers did not change, but the forging number did change. See chart.
