Using the Water Level Tube to Measure Height Difference
The water level tube measurements require two people. Use the following steps in order to measure the height differences:
Remove the caps from both ends of the water level tube.
Illustration 70 g01035673
Make sure that the water level at each end of the water tube are the same
Hold the two ends of the tube together and make sure that the water levels, at both ends of the tube are exactly the same. If the water levels are not the same, check that there are no bubbles of air in the water level tube. Check that there are no kinks restricting water flow in the tube.
Illustration 71 g01035675
The water level in the water tube is held level with the boom pivot
Hold one end of the water level tube so that the water level in the tube is level with the center of the first pivot point. In illustration 71, the water level is held level with the center of the boom pivot.
While maintaining the water level at the first pivot point as in step 3, hold the second end of the water level tube adjacent to the center of the second pivot. In illustration 72, the end of the water level tube is held adjacent to the center of the stick pivot:

Measure the vertical distance from the water level to the center of the stick pivot
When the water level is steady you can measure the vertical distance from the second pivot point to the water level in the water level tube. This measurement is the height difference required for the calibration.Measuring the Distance from Boom Pivot Center to Range Pole
This measurement is crucial to excavator bucket position and must be measured accurately.Using the following steps, measure the distance from the range pole target to the boom center line:
Illustration 73 g01035695
Your mark must be in line with the center of the bucket.
Mark the center line of the boom between the boom pivots, as shown in illustration 73.

Slave GPS antenna mounted to the right of center of the boom
Screw the boom pin center finder into the boom pivot. Make sure that the boom pivot center finder is located at either the center of the boom pivot or to the right of the center of the boom pivot, refer to 74. Insert the range pole target into the boom pin center finder.
Set up the range pole on the range pole target. Make sure that the range pole is vertical.

Measure the horizontal distance from the center of the boom pivot to the center of the range pole
Measure the distance from the center of the range pole to the marked centerline of the boom.Locating the Slave Antenna at the Boom Pivot
The steps below provide instruction on how to locate the slave GPS antenna over the boom pivot for the GPS calibration:
Disconnect the installed GPS antenna cable from the slave GPS antenna. Disconnect the installed GPS antenna cable from the "Ant 2" plug of the GPS receiver.
Remove the slave
