Remove & Install Turbochargers (3408 and 3412)
The procedure is the same for the right side and left side turbochargers.

Later 3412 Engine The Electronic Control Module (ECM) has been repositioned from the top of the aftercooler on the earlier 3408 & 3412 Engines to the lifting group on the rear of the engine on the later 3408 & 3412 Engines. All photos, except the two indicated by caption, are of the earlier 3408 & 3412 Engines but do not affect the Remove & Install procedure for the turbocharger.1. Loosen clamp (1).2. Remove boot (2) from the turbocharger intake.

3412 Marine Engine3. Remove two bolts (5) and remove two tubes (3) and (4). 4. Disconnect line (6). Remove bolt (9) two bolts (7) and two bolts (8). Remove oil intake and drain lines. 5. Disconnect hose (10). 6. Remove four bolts (11).7. Remove clamp (13) and tube assembly (12). 8. Attach a strap (14) and hoist to turbocharger (15).9. Remove four nuts (16) and remove turbocharger (15). The weight of the turbocharger is 29 kg (65 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the turbochargers. Installation is shown for one side only. The procedure is the same for both sides.
Make sure the 2P-2333 Manifold Sealer does not get on the inside of the pipes. Damage to the turbocharger could be the result if the manifold sealer gets on the impeller on the turbocharger.
10. Put 2P-2333 Manifold Sealer on the male ends of turbochargers.11. Use a hoist and strap (14) to install turbocharger (15). Use a new gasket between turbocharger (15) and the turbocharger riser.12. Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to mounting bolts (16). Install the bolts. 13. Lubricate the O-ring seals for the tube (12) with glycerin.14. Install four bolts (11) and tube assembly (12).15. Install clamp (13). 16. Connect hose (10). 17. Connect line (6). Install the turbocharger oil supply and oil drain lines. Install bolt (9) two bolts (7) and two bolts (8).

3412 Marine Engine18. Install two tubes (3) and (4). Install two bolts (5). 19. Install air cleaner boot (2) on the turbocharger.20. Tighten clamp (1).Disassemble Turbocharger (3408)
Start By:a. remove turbocharger 1. Install the turbocharger on Tool (A). Put alignment marks on the three housings of the turbocharger for correct installation and alignment at assembly. Remove "V" clamp (2) and compressor housing (1). 2. Remove "V" clamp (3). Remove cartridge housing (5) from turbine housing (4).
When the nut is loosened, do not put a side force on the shaft. This can result in a bent shaft.
3. Install Tool (C) in Tool (B), and put the cartridge assembly in Tool (C) as shown. Use Tool (D) to remove the nut that holds compressor wheel (6). 4. Put the cartridge assembly in Tool (E), and use a press (if necessary) to remove compressor wheel (6) from the turbine wheel and shaft assembly. Do not let the turbine wheel and shaft assembly fall during removal of the compressor wheel from the turbine
