If piston stop (D) fails, cylinder rod (2) will retract too far allowing the chrome diameter of the rod to move past wiper seal (3), break contact, and go into the grind relief undercut (F) or contact the back of the rod yoke.
The new, heavier piston stop (B) will prevent the condition above.
Adaptable To: The new 148-9856 Cylinder Assembly replaced the former 114-4123 Cylinder Assembly, effective with 113-1924 Stick Cylinder Groups (Eng. Chg. 04) on 5230 ME (7LL71) Mass Excavator. The new 148-9856 Cylinder Assembly is adaptable to 113-1924 Stick Cylinder Groups (Eng. Chgs. 00-03) on earlier 5230 ME Mass Excavators.
A new 148-9856 Cylinder Assembly must be installed in both 113-1924 Cylinder Groups together to prevent twisting of the stick. An engineering change number (Eng. Chg.) indicates effectivity of this improvement or adaptability to previous cylinder groups. The cylinder group part number, engineering change number, and date of manufacture are found on the cylinder group tag.
