Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Use Tooling (A) to remove fuel filter (10) .
Place an identification mark (5) on crankcase breather (3) and fuel filter base (9). This will aid in installation purposes.
Loosen clamp (2) and remove hose (7) from crankcase breather (3) .
Remove bolt (1) and the washer. Remove crankcase breather (3) and the O-ring seal from fuel filter base (9) .
Disconnect tube assemblies (6) and (8) from fuel filter base (9). Cap the tube assemblies immediately.
Remove bolts (4) and the washers. Remove fuel filter base (9) and the gasket from the engine.Installation Procedure

Inspect the condition of the gasket and the O-ring seals. Replace the gasket and the seals, if necessary.
Position the gasket and fuel filter base (9) on the engine.
Install the washers and bolts (4) .
Connect tube assemblies (6) and (8) to fuel filter base (9) .
Install the O-ring seal and crankcase breather (3) on fuel filter base (9). Align identification mark (5). Position crankcase breather (3) at 30 5 degrees away from the cylinder head.
Install the washer and bolt (1). Tighten the bolt to a torque of 7 2 N m (62 18 lb in).
Install hose (7) on crankcase breather (3) and tighten clamp (2) .
Install fuel filter (10) .
