May 2005 NEW CYLINDER PACK REPAIR OPTIONS FOR 3406 B/C ENGINES
(SERIAL NO. PREFIX 7FB, 4TB, 6TB, AND 4MG) Announcement In its continued support of 3406 mechanical engines, Reman is announcing new repair option cylinder packs for engines with 7FB, 4TB, 6TB, and 4MG serial number prefix. These engines, using the 9Y4004 piston, could encounter four corner seizures when run at higher horsepower and/or elevated operating temperatures. To reduce the risk of seizure, the new cylinder packs may be installed. The new cylinder packs should only be used in sets of 6 and will require the oil pump and oil jets to be updated.

0R4515 9Y4004 7W4990 0R9448 0R4178 160-1131 166-3650 0R9449 The new cylinder pack contains a gallery-cooled piston, which requires replacing the single configuration cooling jet, 7E4990, with dual configuration cooling jet, 166-3650. Also, the oil pump must have the higher relief valve setting as found on the 0R9449 oil pump.
Notice: Failure to use the correct oil jet and higher relief valve setting oil pump could cause engine failure. Core Acceptance Criteria The 0R2694 and 0R4515 cylinder packs will be accepted as core for the 10R3201 and 0R4178 repair option.
